Dominic Goodman, Music Supervisor at Ark Music

Having worked in an independent record store in London, Dominic began as a freelance music supervisor in 2002. In 2003, he moved in house at Saatchi and Saatchi to set up their music department, overseeing all sourcing, licensing and commissioning of composition. After four years, he moved to WCRS (now Engine) as Head of Music before setting up his own company Ark Music in 2010. In 2015, he joined Cord Worldwide as Executive Creative Director overseeing the supervision department as well as creative direction on sonic branding and brand partnerships. At the end of 2018, he left this position to resume my focus on Ark.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your job?

The fact that everyone has a strong opinion about music so reaching a consensus when a large number of people are involved in a project is difficult.

What do you look for in an artist you want to work with?

First and foremost, the music must resonate with me. Following that, flexibility and patience.

What was your first job in the music industry?

Working in an independent record store (is that industry?). If not then in-house supervision at Saatchi and Saatchi.

What artists are you excited about for 2019?

Excited for the artists new and old I am yet to discover

Difficult but some names that spring to mind...Demdike Stare, Bill Orcutt/Chris Corsano, Aphex, Gas, Lotic, Tim Hecker.....

Quel est le plus grand défi que vous rencontrez au travail?

Tout le monde tient une forte opinion à propos de la musique alors trouver un consensus si le projet implique beaucoup de gens est difficile.

Qu’est-ce que vous recherchez dans un artiste avec qui vous voulez travailler?

Premièrement, et principalement, la musique. La musique avec qui je ressens quelque chose. Après ça, la flexibilité et la patience.

Quel était votre premier emploi dans l’industrie de musique?

Travailler pour un magasin indépendant de disques (est-ce que c’est dans l’industrie?). Sinon, en supervision interne à Saatchi et Saatchi.

Je suis enthousiaste au sujet des artistes nouvelles et anciens que j’ai encore à découvrir.
