teke::teke

Taking their name from a Japanese urban legend, TEKE::TEKE began as an homage to legendary Japanese guitarist Takeshi “Terry” Terauchi. Composed of musicians from well-known Montreal bands (Pawa Up First, Patrick Watson, Boogat, Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra, and Dynamo Cleoptara), the band quickly came into its own by blending Japanese Eleki surf-rock with elements of modern music that include shoegaze, post-punk, and psych rock, as well as Latin and Balkan influences. They use standard rock gear alongside traditional Japanese instruments (shinobu flute, shamisen, taisho koto) to take a fresh look at the rising electric future.
